Applying for college courses won’t give you a fright this Halloween as Forth Valley College aim to squash fear of retraining costs
College applications won’t be a scare this Halloween as Forth Valley College aim to squash financial fears.
Forth Valley College is hoping to exchange frights for delights this Halloween as they give out friendly advice on Free Future Skills courses.

At Forth Valley College’s (FVC) Halloween Fun Day event, parents and carers can dispel frightening worries of retraining costs and gain some advice on the college’s Free Future Skills courses.
By offering advice during the Fun Day, the college hopes to reach families that don’t usually visit the college and build the confidence for those looking to return to education.
The courses are part of the Free to Learn initiative, which is backed by the Scottish government and Scottish Funding Council.
Parents and carers can learn more about accessing the free courses, the options available to them, and how to get their learning started.
The free courses are flexible with evening and part-time options, and learning can take place within the community or at home as well as on campus. For those worried about returning to education, FVC offers support for dyslexia, mental health, reading, writing, numbers, and English, and most of the learners taking these classes are adults coming back to education after spending time away from it.
Taster sessions are also available, and potential students can try a day or two of the course or build it up over time.
Zak Stark, FVC’s head of commercial training and delivery, said: “If you’re a parent or carer earning under £33,000 - or receiving benefits -, you can learn something new at Forth Valley College, completely free.
“Whether you’re currently in work or not, you can decide what you learn and how much. It could be a day or two to try something out, or part-time learning that builds over time. Big or small, we’ll help you choose.
“Not sure where to start? That’s what we’re here for. Talk to us at the Halloween Fun Day and we’ll help you find learning and support that works for you.”
The FVC Alloa campus will be hosting the free event on Saturday, October 31.
From 10am to 2pm, visitors can come along and enjoy an activity trail, Halloween games, a bouncy castle, face painting, and creative corner.
