Falkirk rail passengers facing disruption this weekend

Falkirk rail passengers face major disruption this weekend as engineering work closes the line to Stirling, forcing diversions and replacement bus services across the area.

Scheduled works, taking place on Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13, will close all lines via Stirling, affecting both ScotRail and LNER services.

Trains between Falkirk Grahamston and Glasgow Queen Street will not run their normal route on Saturday, instead diverting to run between Dunblane and Cumbernauld. Passengers travelling to or from Falkirk Grahamston are advised to use Falkirk High instead.

A replacement bus service will run between Falkirk High, Falkirk Grahamston, Camelon and Larbert on Saturday. Anyone travelling on to Stirling or Dunblane will need to change onto a train at Larbert, as the bus does not run beyond that point.

Sunday's service is expected to be slightly less hassle. The replacement bus service will be extended to run all the way to Stirling, calling at Falkirk High, Falkirk Grahamston, Camelon and Larbert along the way. An additional hourly train will also run on Sunday, calling at Polmont, Falkirk High and Croy.

The engineering works could be set to disrupt the journeys of thousands of music fans expected to descend on Stirling for BBC Radio 2 in the Park this weekend.

Set to be held in City Park, the festival will welcome some of the most popular music stars in the industry to headline the event, which takes place from Friday, September 11, until Sunday, September 13.

ScotRail has announced it is adding additional carriages to some services – those routes from Stirling to Glasgow Queen Street, Alloa, Perth, Dunblane, Dundee and Inverness – following the end of the event on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, providing more seats for commuters travelling home from the event.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail customer operations director, said: “BBC Radio 2 in the Park is set to bring thousands of music fans to Stirling, and we’re doing what we can to help people travel to and from the event by train.

“We’ll be adding extra carriages to key services after the event on all three nights, providing more seats for customers heading home towards destinations including Glasgow, Alloa, Perth, Dunblane, Dundee, and Inverness.”

Passengers are advised to check journey times in advance and allow extra time for connections, particularly on Saturday when a change is required at Larbert to reach Stirling.
