Grangemouth drivers reminded of Earlsgate Roundabout traffic light switch off
Grangemouth drivers are being reminded that traffic lights at Earlsgate Roundabout will stay switched off until the middle of November while essential maintenance is carried out.
Work that began on Monday, October 26 is expected to take around three weeks, with the roundabout likely operational again by Monday, November 16. The existing traffic light system will be upgraded to improve reliability and efficiency.
New pedestrian and cycle crossings will also be installed at the roundabout, marking a further milestone in the A9/A904 Westfield Improvement Project.
Signal-controlled crossing points will be built at the junction of the A904 Falkirk Road and the A905 Glensburgh Road. Designed to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists, they will allow residents to avoid the busy traffic lanes beside McDonald’s, the petrol station and the M9 slip road.
While the signals are switched off, the junction will operate as a standard roundabout, with approaching motorists required to give way to traffic from the right.
The project aims to reduce congestion, improve traffic flow and make the area safer for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists. It will also support local development and investment while improving connections between Falkirk and Grangemouth.
Falkirk Council is investing £40 million in the Falkirk Gateway project to upgrade the A9 and A904 east of the town centre, improving access to destinations such as Falkirk Stadium, Forth Valley College and the Helix and Kelpies Hub.
Drivers have been asked to take extra care when approaching and travelling through the roundabout.
