Forth Valley gears up for weekend of live music with BBC Radio 2 in the Park

Music fans across Forth Valley are gearing up for one of the biggest events of the summer after the full artist list for next weekend’s BBC Radio 2 in the Park was confirmed.

Taking place in Stirling's City Park from Friday, September 11 to Sunday, September 13, the BBC has confirmed the festival line-up, including many of the most instantly recognisable headliners of all time.

The three-day event opens with a Friday night DJ party from Radio 2 presenters including Sara Cox, DJ Spoony and Rylan.

Saturday's line-up includes Irish indie-superstars The Script, homegrown rockers Texas and award-winning talent Jack Savoretti. There’s also appearances from the legendary Lulu, Scottish pop royalty Emeli Sandé, and synth-pop icons ABC.

Headlining Saturday is none other than musical icon Chaka Khan. In a career spanning more than 50 years, the multiple Grammy Award-winning Chicago native who has earned a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, will be bringing a bravura, force-of-nature performance to the Stirling stage next weekend.

Following Saturday's headline acts, Sunday's line-up includes Britpop icons Cast, 90s pop favourites Appleton, pop heartthrobs Blue, jazz funk legends Level 42, Scottish musical maestros Deacon Blue, and one of the most iconic singer-songwriters of our modern era, James Blunt.

Closing the event is one of Scotland’s most influential rock bands of all time, their last tour drew more than 1.5 million people, music streamed more than one billion times, and their track Don't You (Forget About Me), a pop culture phenomenon, defined the sound of the 1980s. Glasgow-born Simple Minds will be playing their only UK gig this year.

Chaka Khan said: "Stirling is such a magical place. I just love the charm and spirit of the 'Gateway to the Highlands'. I can't wait to share the songs, the love and make some beautiful memories together."

Jim Kerr from Simple Minds said: “Well we are delighted, we're really delighted. The fact that it's gonna be in Stirling which is not so far from our neck of the woods, and the fact that you know, Simple Minds in Scotland inevitably is always a bit special.”

Fans will also be able to catch the action across Radio 2, BBC Sounds and iPlayer.
