Licence approved for new online shop in Falkirk

An online-only convenience store has been granted a licence to deliver alcohol to customers across Falkirk this week.

Falkirk Council’s licensing board agreed that Glengro Ltd could sell alcohol along with snacks, soft drinks and household essentials through its website.

Owner Abrar Shaan told the board that he had spotted a ‘gap in the market’ and decided to launch his own business from a warehouse in Castle Drive, Bankside Industrial Estate.

He realised that most convenience stores were paying commission to ‘big apps’, which meant they had to charge higher prices.

Mr Shaan created his own website and told members that this means he does not need to charge a service fee to customers.

He added that the online shop sells a full range of items including groceries and toiletries and alcohol is “just a small part of it”.

Provost Robert Bissett, who is also the licensing board convener, said that it was good to see a business “doing something a wee bit different” and he wished Mr Shaan good luck with the venture.

Members of the board unanimously approved the application.
