As usual, the highlight of the event was the crowning on the gala queen - 11-year-old Dunipace Primary pupil Charli McGuckin – but there was even more reason to celebrate this year.

To huge cheers the official Denny and Dunipace flag, chosen by residents themselves, was unfurled for the first time.

The gala, now in its third year since its resurgence, began with the customary parade from Dunipace Juniors’ Westfield ground to Gala Park, where local businessman William Bryan of Bryans Coaches declared the event officially open.

There was plenty to entertain the huge crowds thorughout the afternoon, from fairground rides to charity stalls and competitions to dance displays.
