Falkirk boss John McGlynn on squad ahead of Kilmarnock visit as loan star misses out

Brentford loanee to miss Kilmarnock match as Falkirk boss provides squad update.

John McGlynn has revealed that Brentford loanee Ben Krauhaus will miss out on Saturday’s visit of Kilmarnock - but that the midfielder should be fit for the busy period coming up before the next international break.

The 23-year-old has been suffering from Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) and will not be risked this weekend against Neil McCann’s side as the Bairns look to make it two wins on the spin in the Scottish Premiership for the first time this season.

Krauhaus played around an hour of last Saturday’s 2-1 victory at Easter Road against Hibs, and he has enjoyed a strong start to life at Falkirk. The Englishman helped McGlynn’s side to a first Premiership win of the campaign when he netted the opener during the 2-1 win over Hearts.

Injury update provided by Falkirk boss

Ahead of the Kilmarnock match, boss McGlynn said: "Ben Krauhaus won't play in this particular game. He should be okay for the midweek fixture on Wednesday against Aberdeen.

It is just a bit of severe DOMS. It is not a strain or tear. He has a bit of pain there and we don't want to risk him. Ethan Laidlaw, Joe Garner, Keelan Adams and Aodhan Doherty are still out.”

"It is frustrating for Ben. He had a little bit of illness recently and it can all be connected. It wasn't something that we took him out of the game for.

"He had an illness but trained Thursday and Friday. He looked okay but we knew that he wouldn't play the 90 minutes, and he got 60-odd. It was a surprise that this injury popped up.”

McGlynn added: "We keep in touch with Brentford and we go through all the procedures and make sure that we are careful. Ultimately he is their player and we have to make sure that we tick all the boxes.

"Ben has a lot of good attributes, he is a good player and a good boy also. He has continued to go from strength to strength and of course scored a good goal against Hearts.

"He carries the ball well. He is powerful as well as being technical. He has a good head on his shoulders. He knows the game for someone so young. We will miss him.”

The boss did have some good news as he revealed that summer signing Ethan Laidlaw, who had only featured in the St Mirren opening day defeat in the league before picking up an injury, is close to a return.

“Ethan is very close and he should be back training on Monday,” McGlynn said. “And that would be good. Joe is not too far away either. Keelan and Aodhan are the ones a bit further.

"We have been doing that where possible. We played Celtic during the last international break. That was a mixture - we basically had two teams for each half. We had everyone who could play playing.”

On the Kilmarnock clash, the boss added: "We want to go back to back wins. But we do understand that Kilmarnock are in the same position as us having won themselves last weekend.

"Knowing Neilly (Neil McCann) he will want to go back to back wins as well. We'll both be out looking for same three points. We just have to look after ourselves.”
