Laurieston banned driver regrets getting behind wheel to help sick pal

A banned driver should have thought twice before getting back behind the wheel to help a sick pal.

Dylan Hunter, 24, had no business climbing into the driver’s seat and was quick to pull the vehicle over when police arrived on the scene.

He appeared at Falkirk Sheriff Court last Thursday having pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified on Bowhouse Road and Craigleith Road, Grangemouth on February 10.

Simon Hutchison, defence solicitor, said: “He doesn’t have a good excuse. His friend wasn’t very well and he asked him to drive.”

Hunter pulled over immediately when signalled to do so by police, added Mr Hutchison.

Sheriff Maryam Labaki banned Hunter, 24 Carse Crescent, Laurieston, for 12 months and placed him on a structured deferred sentence for three months to January 28, with a view to placing him on a community payback order in the future.

She also called for a Venture Trust assessment.

"I think you’ve got to have something to focus on,” she said.
