Falkirk Council green light name change and refurbishment of popular restaurant
A name change and major refurbishment is now on the table for a popular Falkirk area restaurant.
Mitchells and Butlers lodged an application with Falkirk Council on September 21 looking for permission to display “illuminated and non-illuminated advertisements” at The Bruce, Glenbervie, Larbert.
The firm also lodged another application on August 18, looking for the go ahead to alter the restaurant, adding new cladding, entrance doors, paving, sculpture, a jumbrella, external lighting, AC condensers and kitchen ventilation.
Both applications were granted by council planners on Friday, October 30.

The online planning documents seem to point to a name change for The Bruce, with mock ups of multiple signs stating “Miller and Carter Steakhouse” at the location replacing “‘The Bruce” signage which is currently in place.
Miller and Carter is owned and run by Mitchells and Butlers, which also owns and runs a number of other brands, including All Bar One, Toby Carvery, Harvester, and Vintage Inns.
The Falkirk Herald contacted Mitchells and Butlers to find out more details about the possible name change at the premises, but has yet to receive a response.
On its website Mitchells and Butlers states: “Through our passion for excellence and unyielding innovation, our aim is for Mitchells and Butlers pubs and restaurants
to be the venue of choice for a relaxed, memorable meal or drink, whatever the occasion.”
Name changes are nothing new to the Glenbervie venue – the premises was known as the Outside Inn, which closed down after two decades in business almost exactly seven years ago to undergo a £500,000 renovation before re-opening as The Bruce
