BCB Trophy

Signs Express Fury narrowly missed out on an exceptional start to their British Championship Basketball Trophy campaign after suffering a 97-92 overtime defeat to Yorkshire Dragons in Halifax.

The two sides were locked at 83-83 after normal time, with Ali Fraser producing a dramatic long-range three-pointer with just two seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.

The result was a familiar one for the two sides, with Dragons having also ended Fury’s remarkable 2025-26 campaign. Fury won 31 of their 33 games in all competitions last season, with both defeats coming against the Yorkshire side.

Fury made a slow start as Dragons found their range from beyond the arc, but the visitors responded with three-pointers from Bantu Burroughs, Jonny Bunyan and Prince Onwas. Dragons led 22-15 after the opening quarter, before Fury won the second 23-22 to trail by six at half-time.

The Falkirk side then took control in the third, winning the period 25-17 to move two points ahead. Onwas was instrumental, scoring 13 points in the quarter.

The final period was a tense affair. Murray Hendry continued to make a major impact before Fraser’s late three-pointer forced overtime.

Fury fought hard in the extra period, with Bunyan scoring five points and Burroughs and Hendry contributing two-point plays, but Dragons eventually edged clear to claim the 97-92 victory.

Onwas led Fury’s scoring with 22 points and also contributed six rebounds, four assists, two steals and three blocks in 37 minutes.

Hendry produced a big double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds, adding four assists, two steals and two blocks. Burroughs scored 16 points with four assists and three steals, while Bunyan added 13 points, including three three-pointers from four attempts. Fraser completed the double-digit scorers with 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Fury head coach John Bunyan said: “We can take a lot of positives away from the game despite the loss. All ten players saw court time and all made significant contributions to taking a talented Dragons team to overtime. We go into the Newcastle game on Saturday on a high.”
