Falkirk Victoria Harriers star Sofia Vidak secures first senior Scottish title

Falkirk Victoria Harriers star Sofia Vidak produced a stunning performance in Aberdeen last weekend to win her first Scottish senior title in the women’s 800m at the 4J Scottish Senior Championships, writes William Day.

In challenging, blustery conditions, Sofia took the lead from the outset and never looked back.

Her bold front running strategy paid off as she pulled clear of the field to win in an impressive 2:05.48.

The victory was a landmark moment for both Sofia and the club.

Her winning time set a new Falkirk Victoria Harriers club record and made her the first woman in the club’s history to win an outdoor senior track 800m championship title.

It was also the first time she had beaten Aberdeen’s Hannah Cameron.

Sofia’s performance was faster than recent previous winning marks recorded in the championship book, including Gemma Reekie’s 2017 victory in 2:08.

Sofia was asked to sign the book, a fitting recognition of her place in the championship’s history.

Her success reflects years of hard work and commitment, from Falkirk’s Run, Jump and Throw pathway through to the senior stage, and now also coaching some of the younger members - a true role model.

Sofia Vidak is now a Scottish senior champion, a club record holder and a history maker for Falkirk Victoria Harriers.

Congratulations, Sofia & coach Norry Hay on a brilliant race and a well deserved gold medal.
