Falkirk boss John McGlynn on Derby County loan signing and 'strong' squad to face Dundee United.
Falkirk manager John McGlynn says “there is a lot to like” about new versatile loan signing Owen Eames, with the midfielder competing the Bairns’ summer transfer incomings.
Signing No 17, the Derby County teenager joins for the rest of the Scottish Premiership campaign having been part of the Rams’ first-team squad so far this term.
Eames is set to be involved this Saturday against Dundee United either from the start or off the bench.
Speaking ahead of the trip to Tannadice, McGlynn revealed how the move happened, with first-team coach Stephen McGinn playing a key role.
Derby County teenager brings versatility to Falkirk
"He is someone that we really liked the look of,” McGlynn said. "You get so many players put to you... Alan Fraser, our scout, puts a lot of hard work and digs up good players from all over the place.
"This one came up and Stephen McGinn dropped a message to John Eustace. They both together at Watford. We got some encouragement. And we thank them for that - it did a little bit longer than we would have liked.
"But that is par for the course with virtually every loan that we have brought in. We've had to wait that little bit longer. He's been in and around Derby's first team and they think that he has future there.
"He's very versatile. He can play across all of the attacking positions, and he can actually go back into centre-mid too. He can basically play anywhere.
"He is not the biggest but he has the heart of a lion. And he is technically very good. He presses the ball very well and has goals in him. There's a lot to like.”
Meanwhile, McGlynn confirmed that permanent signing Joe Gardner is back and available to play this weekend after returning from injury.
"We've lost no-one from Wednesday night,” he said. “Everyone came through that unscathed. Joe Gardner is available for selection.
"We've got Owen in. He is good, young player who comes into the squad. We're looking strong. CJ (Fodrey) came off with cramp, it was his calf, he is fine and available for selection.”
