October break shock: Falkirk schools 'remain vigilant' following bomb threats

Bomb threats have been made at schools across Scotland with youngsters having to be evacuated from some educational establishments as a precaution.

Police Scotland said it was aware of the messages sent to “a number of schools” in Scotland with at least one local authority taking evacuation measures.

Pupils in the Falkirk area are still off on their October break this week, but Falkirk Council said it was leaving nothing to chance.

A council spokesperson said: “We are aware of attempts to send threatening messages to a number of schools across Scotland. Police Scotland are treating these messages as a hoax and are investigating.

“Falkirk schools are currently closed for the October break, but we remain vigilant and will continue to follow routine and ongoing best practice procedures. The safety of our children and communities remains our priority.”

It is believed primary and secondary schools across several local authorities – including Edinburgh, Glasgow and East Renfrewshire – were among those to receive messages.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We are aware of threatening messages being sent to a number of schools across Scotland. These are being treated as a hoax and officers are investigating.”
