Domestic offender came to Larbert to collect debt and saw red over 'other man'

An offender showed up at his ex partner’s home to collect a debt she supposedly owed him but he saw red when he learned she might have “another man” with her in the property.

Reece Micallef, 37, appeared from custody via video link at Falkirk Sheriff Court last Thursday having admitted threatening behaviour – uttering derogatory remarks and abusive names towards a woman – at an address in Tryst Park, Larbert on April 5.

Micallef was spotted by a witness causing a “commotion” outside a property and footage of the incident was captured on a ring doorbell.

"The accused was arguing on the roadway with his ex partner’s mother,” said the procurator fiscal depute. “He then shouted at the property ‘Have you got someone else up there? Open the door you slag’.

"He added ‘I want my £200 in my bank by Tuesday’.”

The court heard Micallef, 32 Ladeside Crescent, Stenhousemuir, had come by information there was another male there in the premises and that caused him to lose his composure and led to his behaviour “deteriorating”.

It was stated his original reason for going to the address was to ask for money his former partner supposedly owed him.

Last year Micallef appeared at Falkirk Sheriff Court having pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour – repeatedly threatening a woman and threatening to harm himself – in Barnego Road, Denny between December 1, 2024 and May 4, 2025.

He was said to have called her up while she was away to find out who she was “sleeping with” and said he was going to harm himself and it would be her fault – sending her a picture of his injured wrist, saying “you can watch me bleed out”.

At the time his behaviour was described as a “clear pattern of domestic abuse” and something the courts see “day in, day out”.

Back then Sheriff Christopher Shead placed Micallef on a supervised community payback order for 18 months with the condition he completes 160 hours of unpaid work within 12 months and made him subject to an non-harassment order not to have any contact with his ex partner for two years.

Last Thursday Sheriff Elizabeth McFarlane revoked Micallef’s existing order and imposed a four month prison sentence. She also confirmed the existing non-harassment order still remained in place.
