Falkirk boss John McGlynn hails forward after brilliant brace earns Easter Road win against Hibs
Falkirk boss John McGlynn hails forward after brace earns Easter Road win against Hibs.
Falkirk manager John McGlynn hailed Jacob Murrell after the forward bagged a brilliant brace against Hibs to help the Bairns to a second Scottish Premiership win of the season.
Murrell’s excellent first-half double was enough for Falkirk to secure the three points at Easter Road on Saturday, with that victory sending Hibs to the bottom of the table. The Bairns - who battled and showed defensive resolve during the second half - now sit ninth ahead of next weekend’s visit of Kilmarnock.
Owen Elding’s header got Marink Reedijk’s team back into the game just before the break, but the hosts couldn’t find a way to goal thereafter. The likes of Liam Henderson was back to his best, with full-back Ryan Strain also impressing. Goalkeeper Scott Bain also made a key stop to deny Jamie McGrath.
Falkirk boss delighted with win over Hibs
Speaking after the 2-1 win in Leith, McGlynn beamed: "We are delighted as a club. We've had a few sore ones recently losing late goals and we were potentially in that situation after getting in front.
"But to hold out makes me so proud of the players. This is a new squad and that win will help bring them together even more now. They put in so much work and we scored two great goals.
"Hibs had a lot of the ball and Scott Bain had one really good save, but it was all about winning. We have been in good positions in recent games and not seen it through, so that was huge for us. Now we want to kick on from this win.
"I am glad we have got over this because the players dealt with pressure and got the win. Hibs made us run but we worked so hard and I am delighted for everyone - from the players to the fans. There are only 29 games to go now...”
On US striker Murrell’s goals, the boss added: “Jacob's finishes are so clean. Jacob didn't hesitate for a moment and probably took the goalie by surprise. He now has four goals and that's a good return in a short period of time.
"He's strong. he's quick and is finding his feet now. We will see him gain a lot of confidence from that and he is a strong boy. You give him a special mention for his goals but his work was so important.”
