Larbert McGill's duo chase glory at UK Bus Driver of the Year final

Two Larbert-based McGill’s bus drivers will be competing against Britain’s best for the chance to be crowned the UK Bus Driver of the Year this weekend.

Gavin Justice and Michael Morrison, from the company’ Larbert depot, will be looking to improve on last year's performance, when Gavin achieved the best theory test result of any competitor, and Michael was the third-highest-placed McGill’s entrant.

The duo will be joined by three other Scotland-based McGill's employees, Daniel Javed, Jan Bejgerowski and Maciej Herman, each representing the Johnstone depot.

Michael and Gavin will need to be on peak form, with Maciej having finished third overall and the highest-placed competitor from a Scottish depot last year.

The final is designed to replicate a bus driver’s typical working day. Competitors operate as staff of the event's fictitious Middle Walk Bus Services, held to strict standards on driving style, customer care, presentation and professional conduct.

Stephen Docherty, training instructor and delegated examiner at McGill's Bus Group, said: "We are delighted to have five very strong candidates representing McGill's at this year's UK Bus Driver of the Year final.

“The standard of the competition is exceptionally high, bringing together the very best drivers from operators across the country. Maciej's third-place finish last year, together with Gavin achieving the best theory test result, demonstrated the skill, knowledge and professionalism we have within the business.”

The UK Bus Driver of the Year takes place on Sunday in Blackpool and is the industry's leading national road safety and driving skills contest, with around 100 of the country's best drivers set to compete this year.
