Job events planned in Grangemouth as part of Scotland's first ever Employability Day

Job hunters and those eyeing a career change are being urged to head along to two free events set to take place in Grangemouth later this month

The events are being organised by Falkirk Council as part of Scotland's first-ever Employability Day. Local authorities across the country will use the national event to promote the skills and support available to people looking for work or training.

Held in Grangemouth Town Hall, the Jobs and Careers Insight Event will bring employers face to face with people asking about vacancies, apprenticeships, training and other routes into work.

Twenty-four local and national employers have already confirmed they'll be at the town hall, including Balfour Beatty, Ogilvie, Stantec, Paragon, Class One Traffic Management, Lowland Cooperage, Falkirk Health and Social Care Partnership and Falkirk Council.

Many of the firms that will be in attendance will be actively searching for staff on the day.

At the same time, Grangemouth Municipal Chambers is set to host an Employability Support Open Day, bringing together organisations offering help with training, skills, confidence, advice and other barriers to returning to work.

Some of the organisations confirmed for the municipal chambers include CVS Falkirk, Cyrenians, Triage, Falkirk Council's Welfare Benefits team, The Conservation Volunteers, Link Living, Go Youth Trust, Barnardo's, One Parent Families Scotland and the Salvation Army.

Councillor Paul Garner, spokesperson for Economic Development, said: “These events are a chance for local people to speak directly to employers and find out what jobs, training and career support are available across the Falkirk area.

“With 24 employers taking part alongside support organisations, people can find out what is available now, what may be coming next, and who can help them take the next step.

“Whether you're leaving school, returning to work, changing career or looking to develop your skills, I'd encourage you to come along and see what support and opportunities are available.”

The events are open to everyone, including school leavers, career changers, people returning to work, those facing redundancy and anyone wanting help to get ready for work.

The free to attend events will take place on Thursday, September 10, between 10am and 2pm.
