Falkirk weather warnings: Storms Austen and Boelo set to batter Scotland

A yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office for Falkirk and much of Scotland, running from 6am on Friday until 3am on Saturday.

Although Falkirk is expected to avoid the worst of the high winds, Storm Austen is set to bring heavy rain throughout central Scotland.

Between 20mm and 40mm of rain could fall across many areas, with as much as 80mm possible in some places, raising the risk of flooding and travel disruption.

The first named storm of the season is set to sweep across Forth Valley, bringing the potential for disruption to rail, road, ferry and air services, with a small risk of some communities being cut off by flooded roads.

Falkirk, Stirling and West Lothian are among the council areas expected to face the worst of Storm Austen.

Gusts of 50-60mph are likely across large parts of the UK from early on Friday, with conditions spreading to northeast Scotland through the morning and into the afternoon.

The Met Office has also issued a follow-up warning, with Storm Boelo, the second named storm of the season, set to hit Scotland over the weekend in the wake of Storm Austen.

A yellow weather warning for wind will cover Scotland from 6pm on Saturday until 9pm on Sunday, with gusts of 55-60mph expected and speeds of up to 80mph possible on higher ground and along the coast.

While the worst of Storm Boelo is likely to miss Falkirk and instead batter the west of the country, the Met Office has warned that strong winds could cause disruption across the Forth Valley area.
