Update: Camelon Mariner Centre expected to reopen following temporary closure after smoke detected
The Mariner Centre is expected to reopen this afternoon following a temporary closure due to smoke being detected this morning.
Concerns of a fire saw the building undergo a full evacuation after smoke was detected in an upper plant area, triggering the fire alarms. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed there was no fire or ongoing threat to the building.

The cause of the incident is currently unknown. Inspectors and specialist engineers are on site to uncover the cause of the smoke and assess any possible remedial works. An electrical component is being assessed, repaired, and potentially replaced.
The abrupt closure earlier due to “unforeseen circumstances” was announced on the centre’s Facebook page as they apologised for any inconvenience caused.
In a Facebook post, the Centre said: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Mariner Centre has had to temporarily close today. We are very sorry for the disruption and will post further information here once available”.
However Falkirk Council has now said the centre is expected to fully reopen by 3pm today (Wednesday).
The council said: “We are working to reopen the building as soon as possible, subject to the outcome of these assessments and confirmation that it is safe to do so.
“The safety of staff and visitors remains our priority throughout this process and we will keep customers informed on progress through our social media channels.”
