Babies of the week: Grangemouth tots Grace and Bonnie Laidlaw

Twins Grace Angela Jane Laidlaw and Bonnie Mary Elizabeth Laidlaw were born on March 30, 2026 at Forth Valley Royal Hospital.

The sisters were born at 30 + 3 weeks and spent six weeks in the neonatal unit. Grace was born at 1.38am, weighing 3lb 5oz. Bonnie was born two minutes later at 1.40am, weighing 2lb 15 oz.

Mum Claire Laidlaw, 25, is a self employed dog walker, while dad Ryan Laidlaw, 27, is a mechanical supervisor. The girls have a big brother, Noah, who was also born premature and spent two weeks in the neonatal unit. Some of the same nurses that cared for him, also cared for the girls.

The family live in Grangemouth.

Mum said that overall her pregnancy was good until around 28 weeks when things “spiralled down hill”. Mum is type 1 diabetic so everything was higher risk on top of it being a multiple pregnancy. The girls were measuring small so mum had to have weekly visits to the hospital. She had bad sickness throughout the pregnancy.

When it came to the birth, mum had a sickness bug which caused contractions. She had a high temperature and fast pulse rate which turned into a suspected case of sepsis.

Mum was wheeled in for a category two emergency c-section about three or four hours after getting admitted. Dad was handed a pair of scrubs after returning back to the ward after a phone call and was told they had to go as Bonnie’s heart rate kept dipping.

Mum and dad chose the name Grace as it was what they would have called Noah if he was a girl. Bonnie was a name mum read out from a Google list on the way home from the first scan when they found out they were having twins and it just stuck with them. The middle names Angela and Jane are after Claire’s mum and gran. Sadly two weeks after the girls were home and after only one cuddle, Claire’s gran passed away unexpectedly at the age of 92. The names Mary and Elizabeth are after Ryan’s nana and mum.

Mum said Bonnie is a chilled wee soul, although they are coming up for four months, they are technically only six weeks at the moment so they sleep all the time. Grace on the other hand likes a cuddle and has no interest in sitting in her chair.

The girls’ proud grandparents are Angela and Pete Dowds and Elizabeth and Garry Laidlaw.
