Classic car enthusiasts drive another successful year of community support

Stirling and District Classic Car Club has enjoyed another successful year.

As the summer motoring season begins to wind down, members of the Stirling and District Classic Car Club are looking back on a year packed with classic car events and support for local communities.

This year’s biggest success story has been the money raised for good causes. Thanks to another hugely successful annual charity show at Strathallan Games Park in May, the club was able to donate £15,650 to 11 charities and community groups. Among the recipients were Falkirk Foodbank and Strathcarron Hospice.

The donations were presented during special charity evenings in August. At the presentation evening on August 18, Falkirk Foodbank was represented by Harrison Crawford while Claire Kennedy attended on behalf of Strathcarron Hospice. For club members, meeting the people behind the charities is one of the most rewarding parts of the year.

The club has also continued its popular programme of care home visits. A particular highlight was a summer visit to Airthrey Care Home in Airth, where residents, relatives and staff were able to get up close to a selection of classic vehicles and share memories of cars from years gone by. The staff and residents really entered into the classic-era spirit donned in 1920/30s fashion.

Further visits took place at William Simpsons in Plean, The Orchard Care Home in Tullibody and Randolph Hill Care Home in Dunblane.

Of course, there has still been plenty of motoring activity too. Members have enjoyed regular fortnightly club nights, guest speakers and evening runs to destinations around central Scotland. The club has also been well represented at classic vehicle shows across the country, while a series of informal Car and Coffee meets has given members the chance to catch up in a relaxed setting.

The centrepiece of the year was once again the annual SDCCC Charity Show in May, which attracted more than 1000 vehicles from 53 clubs. The event has become a firm favourite on the Scottish classic car calendar and continues to provide vital support for local charities.

Club Chairman George Waddell said: “People often join because they enjoy classic vehicles, but they stay because of the friendships and the opportunity to give something back. Whether we are raising money for charities or visiting care homes, it is fantastic to see the difference the Club can make in local communities.”

Since 2005, the Club has now donated more than £158,000 to charities and community organisations across central Scotland. With several autumn events still to come, members are already looking forward to another busy year in 2027, including the annual show on Sunday, May 9, 2027.
