Signs Express Fury reign over Dunfermline in SBC Scottish Cup

Signs Express Fury BC Senior Men booked their place in the Scottish Cup semi-finals with an impressive 89-69 victory over Dunfermline Reign in the quarter-finals.

The Falkirk side made a flying start, taking the opening two quarters 25-19 and 27-12 to establish a commanding 21-point half-time advantage. Fury continued to control proceedings after the break, finishing with 14 three-pointers on their way to a convincing 20-point win.

Bantu Burroughs led the scoring with an outstanding 31 points, including six three-pointers. Captain Jonny Bunyan contributed 17 points, with three triples, while Jack Hencher added 13 and Murray Hendry 11.

Former Great Britain international Joe Hart also made an impact with eight points, while Hokyu Chan produced two excellent consecutive three-pointers as Fury built their first-half lead.

Fury now turn their attention back to Scottish Division One league action, with a trip to Edinburgh to face Boroughmuir Blaze on Saturday.

The defending champions have made an excellent start to their title defence, winning all six of their opening league fixtures. Blaze, meanwhile, have recorded three wins and four defeats. The sides have already met this season, with Fury securing a convincing 106-71 victory at the GSC in their opening league fixture.

However, Fury head coach John Bunyan expects a much tougher challenge this time around.

Speaking to the Falkirk Herald, Bunyan said: "Reaching the semi-final stage of the Scottish Cup once again saw us with a change in line-up, with our recent American signing Jarius Jones unavailable.

"That said, we produced a solid performance in getting the win, and key to that was a really good team effort on defence and sharing the ball well, particularly in the second period.

"The league game on Saturday against Blaze will, I am sure, be a much tougher game for us than our opening season win against them.

"They have now brought back some senior players who are gelling well with their talented younger members, and of course any game at the Crags is far from easy.

"We are going in focused on the defensive end. Transition will be key, and getting the win will be important in separating the two sides further down the line."

Fury travel to the Crags Sports Centre in Edinburgh on Saturday, with tip-off scheduled for 6.20pm. Spectators are welcome.

Signs Express Fury BC Senior Women bowed out of the Scottish Cup following a 74-50 defeat to Edinburgh Blaze in the quarter-finals, although the final scoreline did not reflect how closely contested the game was for much of the afternoon.

Fury went into the tie on the back of a three-game league winning streak, while Blaze arrived unbeaten this season. The Falkirk side competed throughout, with little separating the teams over the opening three quarters.

Both sides made a slow start offensively, with the first quarter producing just 19 points as Blaze edged ahead 13-6. The second period remained competitive, although the Edinburgh side managed to extend their advantage to 12 points at half-time.

There was still plenty to play for entering the final quarter, with Blaze taking the third 18-16 to lead by 14. With less than three minutes remaining, a three-pointer from Bethany Snedden brought Fury back into contention at 61-48.

However, Blaze finished strongly, producing a 13-2 run to secure victory and their place in the semi-finals.

Bethany Snedden led Fury's scoring with 19 points, while U16 star Ruby Cruickshanks contributed an impressive 16.

Despite the disappointment, coach John Bunyan will take encouragement from the performance, with all nine players recording double-digit minutes. With an average squad age of just 18, the young Fury side continues to show plenty of potential.

Fury were also without Emily Dagger, who suffered an unfortunate injury just hours before the game, while Danni McNamara was cup-tied to her university side, leaving the Falkirk team without two important players.

Attention now turns back to league action, with the Senior Women welcoming Boroughmuir Blaze to Grangemouth Sports Complex on Saturday for a 12pm tip-off.

The game forms part of an exciting four-match programme of Scottish Division One women's basketball at the venue, with all four Fury teams facing Blaze.

The unbeaten U14 Girls get the action underway at 10am, followed by the Senior Women at midday, the U16 Women at 2pm and the U18 Junior Women at 4pm.

The Junior Men travelled to Glasgow to face Rens and produced an impressive second-half performance to secure a 72-57 victory.

Fury found themselves two points behind at half-time, but a change in defensive approach from coach Keith Bunyan helped turn the game around. They dominated the third quarter with a crucial 24-12 scoreline before holding off a determined Rens side in the final period, winning that quarter 16-11 to seal a convincing 15-point success.

Taylan Ertekin led the scoring with 22 points, while Jack Webster contributed 14.

The Junior Men now face a huge challenge this Saturday when they take on Blaze at the Crags Sports Centre. With Blaze sitting top of the league with a 7-0 record and Fury second at 6-1, the meeting promises to be one of Scotland's biggest under-age fixtures of the weekend.

Both teams boast a strong contingent of Scotland international players, with tip-off scheduled for 4.20pm.

Fury's U16 Cadet Men also progressed to the Final Four after their quarter-final opponents conceded the tie, giving coach Ewan Carlow's side a place in the next stage of the competition.

There was also a commanding performance from the U16 Women, who stormed to a 137-28 victory over Ayr Storm at GSC to book their place in the National Cup semi-finals.

Coach Kim Hunter's side produced an outstanding team display, with all 12 players receiving double-digit minutes on court. Ruby Cruickshanks led the way with an impressive 36 points in just 18 minutes, while U14 star Isabella Mitchell added 21.

Alexandra Marrs contributed 14 points, with Charlotte Snedden, Ariana Smith and Katherine MacLeod all finishing on 12. Jodie Lambert and Katie Corbett also reached double figures with 10 points apiece.
