Watch: ScotRail shares footage of train travelling in thick fog across Forth Bridge

The video comes as the Lothians woke up to heavy snowfall this morning with an amber weather warning in place for more until 9pm on Tuesday evening.

The footage shows limited visibility with thick fog preventing the driver from being able to see more than several hundred metres across the bridge from the train.

It has been shared on ScotRail’s Twitter with a statement reading: “We're dealing with some pretty challenging weather across our network right now.

“This was the view from the Forth Bridge a short while ago. Thanks to Conductor Scott for sharing this clip.”

While Edinburgh and the surrounding Lothians look like idyllic winter wonderlands after snow fell last night, travel has been disrupted amid the wintry weather.

A statement from the Met Office warns: “Snow showers are expected to continue during Tuesday with some large accumulations building up in parts of central Scotland.

“Across the area 5-10 cm of snow is expected to lie fairly widely with areas of 10-20 cm, perhaps particularly over higher parts of the Central Belt and the chance of 25 cm of snow in one or two spots.”

Weather warnings for snow and ice have been in place for several days and will remain until Wednesday night down the east coast of the country.

Anybody who is planning on travelling should check roads and train and bus schedules before leaving as delays are expected.

There are also slip warnings on walkways.
