£1m upgrade for Grangemouth and Camelon sport centres to start next year
A £1 million programme will see upgrades at Grangemouth Sports Complex and the Mariner Centre in Camelon with works beginning in the New Year.
Grangemouth and Camelon’s swimming pools, run by Falkirk Council, are set to benefit from a £1 million investment to upgrade the pool and changing facilities.

Phase one covers the Grangemouth Sports Complex with work expected to start in January 2027, lasting around eight weeks. The pool, changing village, and sauna area will be closed temporarily while upgrades are carried out.
The complex will see a total refurbishment of the changing village, sauna changing area, and toilets, essential maintenance works beneath the swimming pool, a refurbishment of foyer toilets, and upgrades to the fitness studio.
While customers may not be able to see the benefits of the pool maintenance works, the council says the makeover of the changing facilities should show a clear improvement.
After the Grangemouth project is completed, similar works are provisionally scheduled to be undertaken at the Mariner Centre between March and April next year.
The centre’s planned programme includes a refurbishment of the changing village lockers, cubicles, and toilets, and the addition of new water features within the pool.
Falkirk Council has said it will work with customers, swimming clubs, and lesson participants to reduce disruption wherever is possible. While the Grangemouth works are in progress, customers can still access swimming facilities through the community swimming programme in local high schools and at the Mariner Centre.
Additional information about lessons and club arrangements, along with other available options, will be shared once plans are finalised.
Councillor Paul Garner, acting leader of Falkirk Council, said: “This £1 million investment will improve facilities at two important leisure centres used by communities across the Falkirk area and extend their working lives.
"We know temporary pool closures will cause disruption for customers, swimming lesson participants, clubs and organisations, and we thank everyone for their patience while the work is carried out.
"These improvements will create better, more modern facilities and help ensure both Grangemouth Sports Complex and the Mariner Centre continue to serve local communities in the years ahead.”
Customers can expect to be kept in the loop for the duration of the project, and the confirmation of start dates, closure periods, reopening dates, and alternative arrangements will be shared as they become available.
