Grangemouth youngsters are OVO Hydro bound after big telly performance

The talented thespians of Grangemouth’s Young Portonian Theatre Company performed on television with singer Cammy Barnes to celebrate STV Children’s Appeal raising an amazing £2.5 million this year.

Last week’s show, hosted by presenter Lorraine Kelly, put the spotlight on the appeal’s life-changing work and highlighted a busy year of fundraising for the appeal, which supports the children and families across Scotland who need it most.

As part of the celebrations, viewers who watched the STV show were treated to a special performance from Scottish singer-songwriter Cammy Barnes, who was joined by a choir from Grangemouth’s Young Portonian Theatre Company – a group which has felt the benefit of support from the appeal.

To cap off a tremendous day for the youngsters – who are currently working hard rehearsing for their November pantomime Alice and the Keys to Wonderland – Cammy invited them to join him on stage at one of two sold-out concerts at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro arena in April next year.

He said: “Getting to perform with the Young Portonians choir for the STV Children's Appeal was such a special experience. They're an incredible group of young people and I was absolutely blown away by their talent and enthusiasm.

“I had such a brilliant time singing with them that I thought, why not do it again? Playing the Hydro next April is going to be one of the biggest nights of my life, and being able to share a wee part of that with them will make it even more special.

"I can't wait to have them up on that stage with me. It's going to be a moment none of us will forget.”

The STV Children’s Appeal live show topped off a day of fundraising activity across various STV platforms – with STV Radio ripping up its regular Friday schedule to include guest appearances from celebrity appeal supporters, including a live DJ set from comedian Karen Dunbar.

The Young Portonian’s production of Alice and The Keys to Wonderland will be performed at Grangemouth Town Hall, from November 25 to November 30.
