In a bid to improve the local environment the group will be litter picking around the library and bus stop. Lunch and equipment will be provided for volunteers, and all are welcome to come along and take part.

The mission was inspired after the group spotted litter building up around the library and bus stop, and they felt they must take action to show the community cares about its environment. The main aim is to make Denny cleaner, safer, and more welcoming.

Alpha Community Action Group SCIO has a history of clean ups like this one. Most recently, the group partnered with Inspire Denny & Dunipace to tidy the Castlerankine Road playground.

Parents, residents, and even passing motorists would stop and say thank you to the volunteers as they were working.

Another clean up by the group, held at Gala Park in Denny, received warm praise from families who appreciated the improvement. Volunteers left the event feeling proud to have contributed to a positive change in the community.

Now, the team is calling for volunteers to get involved with their latest clean up at Denny Library.

Moses Yalley, founder and lead coordinator at Alpha Community Action Group SCIO, said: “Volunteers make a real difference. Even one hour of litter-picking helps create a cleaner town, encourages others to take pride in the area, and brings neighbours together.

“It’s also a chance to meet new people and be part of something meaningful.”

The group have two more projects that are yet to start, and they include regular clean ups, organising workshops on climate and environmental awareness, encouraging active travel, and pollinators-friendly planting.

Those who are looking to join in should go along to Denny Library on Saturday, September 12 at 2pm. To join subsequent clean up events, please contact 07474 627 278, either by phone or Whatsapp, or email the team at [email protected].
