The car park’s monobloc shows the damage that has been done by cars ‘doing donuts’ and driving at excessive speeds.

A spokesperson for Falkirk Community Stadium Ltd said that they were left with no option but to install the barriers after reports that some of the driving was putting other stadium users in danger.

“In the past we have witnessed drivers driving to excessive speeds, often when there are other stadium users walking close by; damaging the car park; dropping litter; and the noise they have generated – especially late into the night – has led to complaints from local residents.

“After consideration it was felt that the only appropriate solution was to install manual barriers that can be locked once the stadium is closed down each day.”

The Falkirk Stadium car park closing times vary according to events taking place in the stadium and its function rooms, so closing times will vary from 5pm to 2am.

“Since the barriers have been installed, we have witnessed a significant reduction in anti-social driving and the issues it has brought.”

The car park is not only used by people attending matches and other events at Falkirk Stadium, it is also used as an overflow car park for people using the Helix and visiting the Kelpies.

In previous years, ‘boy racers’ also caused major problems in the car park closest to the Kelpies.

Falkirk Community Trust staff reported that they were having to spend at least an hour picking up litter from both car parks in the morning.

A barrier is now in place to prevent access to the top car park in the evenings.
