Banknock quarry plans get green light 14 years after they were first lodged

A proposal to restore a “quarry void” has taken 14 years to come to fruition.

Aggregate Industries – now known as Holcim UK Limited – lodged an application with Falkirk Council way back on June 30, 2012 looking for permission to restore the quarry void at Cowdenhill Quarry, Coneypark Crescent, Banknock.

The proposal was granted permission on Friday, August 28 – some 5173 days after the plan was first lodged.

According to the online documents, the full planning application proposes the restoration of an existing quarry void at Cowdenhill, Banknock and the upgrading of the southern section of access road heading out onto the A803.

The documents state: “The upgrading of the access road in this location includes widening, tarmac surfacing and the installation of a wheel wash facility. The restoration proposals include the re-grading of the Doups Burn to aid natural drainage of the site and planting and earthworks, designed to improve visual amenity, safety and biodiversity.”
