Young people across Falkirk district are receiving the results for exams they never got to sit today (Tuesday).

Envelopes will be coming through the letterbox and texts and emails dropping into inboxes as pupils receive their Highers, Advanced Highers and National 5s results from the Scottish Qualifications Authority.

It’s an unusual time for all this year, as for the first time no students sat any exams in May, but it will still be a nervy day for those awaiting their results.

Schools closed suddenly in March due to the coronavirus pandemic and learning took place at home.

Those studying subjects at National 4 and 5, Higher and Advanced Higher level were unable to sit exams or complete assessments.

The results being received today are based on teacher estimates, with final grades built around preliminary exam results and course work that has already been submitted.

The Scottish Qualifications Authority says results will have been based on a pupil's performance throughout the year and not on one particular test.

Pupils will be able to appeal any results that they do not agree with.

Support is available to all those receiving results from a number of organisations.

Skills Development Scotland has a free results helpline offering careers advice, information and guidance by calling 0808 100 8000.
