Cask and you shall receive: Falkirk distillery collaboration serves up whisky offer to private clients
People have the chance to purchase and taste the “holy grail” of lowland whisky thanks to a collaboration by Rosebank Distillery and McLean and Bruce.
Rosebank Distillery closed its doors in 1993, bringing more than 150 years of whisky production to an end. However, almost three decades later, the distillery has re-opened to produce new whisky.

The whisky it created before the closure remain exceptionally scarce – and much sought after.
Now Charles MacLean, whisky writer and founding director of MacLean and Bruce, and Leonard Russell, managing director of Ian Macleod Distillers, have selected
an exceptional cask of Rosebank distilled in 1991, just two years before the distillery closed.
A limited number of bottles will now be drawn from this historic cask – “Cask 1165” – and hand bottled at Rosebank. Each will be individually numbered and signed by Charles and distillery manager Neil Bulloch.
Those who wish to purchase this rare whisky will actually be invited to the Camelon Road distillery to taste the whisky with Charles and collect their bottles in
person, returning to the very place where the whisky was distilled more than 35 years ago.
Vikki Bruce, managing director of MacLean and Bruce, said: “Rosebank holds a very particular place in the history of Scotch whisky, and it is a pleasure to be working
with the distillery on this release.
“What makes this project particularly interesting is the opportunity to bring together an exceptional historic cask, Charlie’s expertise and a genuinely personal bottling experience.
“Our clients value provenance and authenticity, and the opportunity to see their whisky bottled, numbered and signed at Rosebank adds another dimension to what is already a remarkable single malt.”
During the selection tasting, Mr MacLean noted the whisky’s oak influence, fruit character and remarkable depth, describing it as “very impressive”.
This “living cask” concept by Rosebank allows enthusiasts and collectors to experience the evolution of the distillery’s maturing whisky by extracting bottles on
request and allowing remaining spirit to continue to mature.
William Ovens, head of private clients at Ian Macleod Distillers, said: “Cask 1165 stood out immediately for its remarkable quality and character. Selected by Leonard Russell and Charles MacLean, it represents the craftsmanship and spirit that define Rosebank today.”
