Falkirk district venues to host Doors Open Day events

Two Falkirk district venues are set to welcome visitors this weekend as the popular Doors Open Days take place.

The initiative, which takes place across Scotland throughout the month, allows members of the public to uncover hidden gems and experience familiar places through fresh eyes, all for free. It’s a chance to celebrate community heritage and the built environment, while visiting some interesting and historic buildings.

The local buildings opening their doors on Saturday, September 19 are Falkirk Islamic Centre and the Museum of Scottish Railways.

The Museum of Scottish Railways will also be open on Sunday, September 20.

Falkirk Islamic Centre will open its doors to welcome neighbours, friends and people from the wider community once again this year.

The mosque open day offers an opportunity for people to experience the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of the Islamic faith.

There will be guided tours of the mosque as well as exhibitions on Islamic history and culture.

The centre in Burnhead Lane will be open from noon to 4pm on Saturday, September 19.

In Bo’ness visitors to the Museum of Scottish Railways can explore three buildings of locomotives, carriages and wagons.

The museum, at the town’s station in Union Street, offers visitors the chance to get hands on and discover railway history through fun interactive displays.

There will be free entry to the museum and engineering workshop viewing gallery for Doors Open Days as well as access to a selection of vehicles which are not usually accessible to visitors.

The Museum of Scottish Railways will welcome visitors on both Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 4pm.
