A theatre group that specialises in lively audience participation whodunnits is challenging people to solve their latest murder plot over the Internet.

Murder Mystery company Can You Catch the Killer are no strangers to Falkirk, having appeared many times at the town hall with their themed detective productions – which have included a James Bond plot line.

COVID-19 may have killed off any chance of the troupe touring live shows for the moment, but they have just produced a digital mystery game which people can play on Zoom – the app which has been driving office workers to distraction.

Kenny Boyle, Can You Catch the Killer artistic director, said: “The weekly quizzes over Skype or Zoom – such a relief at first – are beginning to feel like a chore rather than an escape.

“There’s only so many times you can be asked what Postman Pat’s second name is and still find it fun. And honestly, even though it’s not possible to literally ‘complete’ Netflix, don’t you feel like you’ve completed Netflix?

“Fortunately we have the soloution. Can You Catch the Killer have been touring Scotland with our zany mixture of gruesome death and pantomime comedy for over a decade.

“We’ve visited Falkirk at least once a year since our inception and are established favourites at Falkirk Town Hall, but this year we, like everyone, haven’t been able to get out and about much, so we’ve used the downtime to create ourt first digital box set.

“Murder Mystery box sets used to be all the rage in the early 90s, but they sort of fell out of vogue I think we’re all missing out a bit though, because actually they’re perfect for playing online and staying socially distant while having a really memorable night.”

Can You Catch the Killer’s first digital murder mystery kit is the Cluedo parody Murder In Monsieur Midnight’s Mansion and is for four to eight players.

Kenny said: “You and your guests will play the suspects in the murder – and one of you will also be the victim. None of you, not even the killer themselves, will know ‘whodunnit’.

“You’ll have a chance to interrogate each suspect and the winner is the guest who correctly deduces who committed the crime.”

The kits are available now.
