Warriors add Kerr, Smith and Berry

The 23-year-old joined up at Ochilview this week as the Stenny players reported back for the first day of pre-season training.

Kerr began his career with Birmingham City and, after a successful loan spell at Motherwell, joined the Fir Park club permanently after being released by the Midlands outfit and spent two seasons there.

Ferguson has also snapped up East Kilbride striker Jack Smith - who helped the Lowland League outfit knock the Warriors out of last season’s Scottish Cup - and Queen’s Park midfielder Vinnie Berry.

Jim Paterson has re-signed as a player-coach and Forth Valley Academy players Calum Runciman and Liam McMaster have been called up to join fellow Academy graduates Paul Nash and Grant Hamilton and ’keeper Sean Robertson who have all signed on from the under-20s.

Celtic ’keeper Colin McCabe has also signed for a season on loan, having spent part of last season at Ochilview.

Ferguson said: “We’re delighted he has retunred for the season. He’s six foot five and has a commanding, imposing presence. He also wants to improve week on week and knows that we can offer him the opportunity to do that.

“Vincent Berry was someone who impressed me when I watched him in the play-offs. He scored a few goals towards the end of the season but essentially he’s someone who can patrol the midfield area for us.

“He’s played in America and at junior and senior level and we’re delighted to get him.

“Fraser Kerr has good experience from his time at Motherwell and Birmingham City but broke his hand when he was at Cowdenbeath last year and as a result of that is someone who who has almost been forgotten about.

“And Jack Smith put us to the sword in the cup for East kilbride last year and is someone who can score vgoals anbd give us a bit of pace up front.”

The Warriors boss was pleased with the way Monday’s first training session went and says the days of players reporting back after their summer break a stone overweight are long gone.

He said: “We don’t give them a specific programme to follow but we have a diligent group who look after themselves and the tests we carried out showed they have come back in good shape.

Stenhousemuir have two pre-season friendlies confirmed, both at Ochilview, against Ayr United on Saturday, July 2, at 2pm and Cowdenbeath on Tuesday, July 12, kick-off 7.30pm.

Admission to both is £8 for adults and £4 concessions.

The Warriors are also lining up closed door friendlies with Hearts and Falkirk.
