Falkirk finally announced Aidan Keena’s signing this morning – ten days after the striker penned a two-year deal with the Bairns.

A paperwork delay left the move all but done for more than a week – awaiting the last piece of red tape to be untangled and finalise the 21-year-old’s return to Scotland.

But for Keena it’s not the only wait, and ten days was relatively short – the dad-to-be is awaiting the arrival of his daughter in October, and the SPFL League One kick off, of course.

The new arrival played a part in his departure from Hartlepool and he explained to The Falkirk Herald: “I had been speaking to Hartlepool about possibly getting away with my partner being pregnant and wanting to come back up the road.

“When I got the go ahead to have a look up here at what was available, Lee Miller and I spoke, and that was it. I’d been looking and then a club like this came around and it was ideal for me. I’m delighted.

“Everyone in Scottish football knows how big a club it is. I’ve played against Falkirk and have had plenty of team-mates who’ve either been here on loan or are playing here now.

“Andy Irving and Lewis Moore were here and I played with Aidan Connolly and Mark Durnan at Dunfermline and Conor Sammon briefly at Hearts.”

As well as familiar faces, Keena is also relishing working with Lee Miller.

The boss will play next season too and Keena is looking forward to it.

He added: “I can only benefit from his experience. All my previous managers have been defenders, or midfielders. Stevie Crawford was only in for one game when I was at Dunfermline so I think Lee is the first striker manager I’ve had and he’s been through it all on the pitch. He’ll be there if I’m struggling with any aspects.

“I’ve played in this league before and got eight goals in 14 matches – I’ll take that ratio again.

“My girl is on the way in October. The league is kicking off then but I’ll need to have a conversation and see if we can make sure she’s born on a weekday!”
