Falkirk interest in signing midfielder Scott Brown ends

Bairns opened talks with the midfielder but failed to ‘follow up on discussions’ according to his club, Peterhead.

Falkirk will not be signing midfielder Scott Brown, his club Peterhead have revealed.

In an unusual turn of events, the Blue Toon revealed they’d retained their captain after allowing him to speak to Falkirk – managed by former Peterhead coach David McCracken.

Brown was permitted to speak to the Bairns last week despite signing a new contract at Balmoor just hours before, with Jim McInally open to allowing the player a return to full-time football – and a home game commute closer to his north-Glasgow base.

However the boss told his club’s website the Bairns didn’t follow-up their initial discussions.

He said: “Scott had signed a new contract with us but we agreed that we would transfer his registration to Falkirk after they got in touch. It was a far from ideal situation for Peterhead however we would had given our word to Scott.

“Unfortunately Falkirk never followed through their interest despite discussions. Thankfully, Scott has a good relationship with everyone at Peterhead and will shrug off what went on.”

The 25-year-old added: “It was great of Jim and the club to allow me to talk to Falkirk. They had always promised that they would allow me to return to full-time football if a chance came up and to do it just after I had agreed to stay was big of them.

“However, the transfer never came off and that was that.

“I am not down about it at all. I am proud to be the captain of Peterhead and delighted that I will be in that role for next season.”

Falkirk have retained six of last season’s out-of-contract playing squad, plus co-manager Lee Miller who will be registered as a player.

Miller and McCracken have recruited four new faces – Scott Mercer, Blair Sneddon, Anton Dowds and, this week, Aidan Keena.
