Work begins on Falkirk Council development to build 137 new homes
Work is underway on a £36 million project to deliver 137 new social homes on the site of a former high school.
Groundworks have been completed and construction is now underway at the former Denny High School site, marking what Falkirk Council call “a major milestone” in it’s house building programme.
The energy-efficient homes for social rent will help meet growing demand for affordable housing across the area.
Site preparation and infrastructure works began in December last year. Designed and project managed by the council's in-house architects, the development is being built by Clark Contracts Ltd and is expected to be completed by November 2028.

The council say all the new homes will be advertised nearer that time in line with the its allocations policy.
There will be homes to meet a range of housing needs, including 22 one-bedroom homes, 63 two-bedroom homes, 41 three-bedroom homes, 10 four-bedroom homes and one five-bedroom home. Of the 137 homes, 25 will be designed to ambulant standards and seven will be fully wheelchair accessible.
The project is supported by £14 million of Scottish Government grant funding, with the remaining investment provided by the council.
Councillor Stacey Devine, spokesperson for housing said: “It's fantastic to see construction now underway at what will be our largest council housing development to date. This is a significant investment in Denny and in the future of council housing across Falkirk.

"Every new home we build helps address local housing demand while providing modern, energy-efficient homes that people can afford. Developments like this also support our wider ambitions to create sustainable communities where people can thrive.”
The 1959 Denny High School site became surplus to educational requirements in February 2009 when the school relocated to a new campus on Herbertshire Fields. Part of the old site later housed the Denny Football Centre, which closed in March 2020 and was formally declared surplus by Falkirk Council in February 2023
Falkirk Council said the Denny development builds on its ongoing investment in new affordable housing.
During 2024/25, 111 homes at Woodend Farm in Hallglen were delivered. In addition, a further 49 homes were brought back into council ownership. The former Denny High School development represents the next major phase of the council's housebuilding programme.
