Planners gave approval to the popular cafe's plans to create a sheltered area with sliding glass doors and a retractable roof, saying that the design and materials are suitable and will create minimum visual impact.

The new design means on fine days the sides and roof can be fully opened, while on wet or windy days they'll be closed.

At the moment, the cafe - which sits beside the John Muir Way - is having to turn customers away when the weather is too wet or cold.

And that's been made worse by social distancing measures imposed during the Coronavirus crisis as fewer indoor tables are available.

The cafe is part of the Callendar Estate Activity Centre, which has mountain bike trails, a bike shop, bike hire and maintenance facilities and heritage trails.
