Craig sang his own track, Come Waste My Time, in Saturday night’s live final as millions watched the 23-year-old claim victory and secure a professional record deal.

His heartfelt performance hit the right note with viewers as thousands have downloaded the single – putting the former Greggs worker in atop the iTunes chart ahead of Nathan Evans’ Wellerman (Sea Shanty) and All You Ever Wanted by Rag'n'Bone Man.

Come Waste My Time has made The Voice history by becoming the best-performing self-written winner’s single.

He said: “I’m still in that dream-like mind state because it doesn’t actually feel like that did just happen because it is so surreal.

“I just want to say thank you very much because without your support I wouldn’t be here. What you’ve done for me in the past month and a bit has been absolutely incredible.”
