Wildfire warnings in place in Falkirk area

Scottis Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) is reminding residents – including those in Falkirk – high temperatures mean wildfire warnings will remain in place from now until Monday, August 15.

The risk is said to be “very high” in eastern and southern Scotland over the weekend and, during this time, surface fires could burn and spread in these areas with high intensity.

Wind speeds are expected to be light to moderate, meaning fires could re-kindle and smoulder and therefore be challenging to extinguish.

On issuing the warning the SFRS is urging the public to take extra care in the countryside, at a time when temperatures are forecast to rise.

Pet charity opens new shop in Falkirk

SFRS deputy assistant chief officer Bruce Farquharson said: “Our crews will be ready to respond to every emergency to protect our communities. But there are simple steps we can all take when we are spending time outdoors to prevent vast damage to the environment and protect emergency service workers from attending avoidable incidents."
