Affordable ways to make your home more attractive to potential buyers

Selling a house can be easier said than done, but there are certain things you can do to make your home more appealing to prospective buyers.

Utility rooms and additional storage are reported to increase a property's value, with more than two in five new build homes (46 per cent) now offering these features, according to research by self-storage company, Space Station.

But what else can make your home attractive to buyers, and what additions can be made without breaking the bank? Here are some ideas.

Create a mini utility area

Homeowners don’t have to fork out a lot of money in order to create their own utility room.

Switching up unused space under the stairs is a great way to create a small utility space, which could help maximise selling prospects.

Shelving could also be added to help store cleaning and laundry supplies, alongside a worktop.

Make use of unused indoor space

Space under a bay window or an empty corner of the room which isn’t currently used could be transformed into built-in storage that will be appealing to buyers.

Plinth drawers are a good option for additional storage in the kitchen, as drawers can be fitted underneath cabinets and make the most of unused space.

There’s also plenty of unused space higher up in your home - for example, on top of cupboards. You can add shelving or storage cupboards higher up, especially in smaller bathrooms where space can be limited.

Hang hooks or pegs to spaces next to doors, or a bookcase above a window frame for a quirky but useful storage space.

Maximise outdoor space

Garages and sheds are great spaces for extra storage. You could add shelving units or hooks to store gardening tools, DIY equipment and gadgets.

Equipment and tools could also be hung up on the wall or on the ceiling in order to really maximise the floor space.

Make use of your pantry

If you have a pantry in your home, then you could add additional shelving in order to maximise the space, as well as a door organiser to make use of every little bit of space there is.
