What is salmonella?
The World Health Organisation (WHO) explains that “salmonellosis is a disease caused by the bacteria Salmonella. It is usually characterised by acute onset of fever, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, nausea and sometimes vomiting.”
The onset of symptoms occurs between six and 72 hours (usually 12 to 36 hours) after the ingestion of salmonella, and illness lasts between two and seven days.
