Reform MSP gives her party's support to Grangemouth petrochemical giant

An MSP representing Reform UK was taken on a tour of the Ineos petrochemical plan in Grangemouth and told bosses her party will always back the oil and gas industry.

Reform’s Central Scotland MSP Amanda Lindsay visited the facility with her colleague, shadow minister for energy, Duncan Massey and they saw first hand the workings at the petrochemical plant.

Amanda said: “I was proud to visit Ineos to see their state-of-the-art petrochemical plant. Given a tour of the site, including a climb to the top of a storage tank, we experienced the view over the plant and the surrounding landscape which was outstanding — and a reminder of just how significant this industrial complex remains for Scotland and the UK.

“We discussed the challenges the industry faces. Chief among them are the astronomical energy prices in the UK, which make it far more expensive to manufacture here than in competitor countries.

“We also discussed the UK Emissions Trading Scheme and the tax burden on North Sea oil and gas that is driving industry out of this country. All the company wants is a level playing field.

"Grangemouth matters. It is not just about the jobs on site, or those supported across the wider supply network. It is about the interconnected nature of this industry.

“Reform UK will always back the oil and gas industry. We will work with them on a transition that is fit for the future - not one that involves cutting our own throats on the altar of stupid net zero policies.”
