The amateur dramatists are bringing legendary play Whisky Galore to town for a five-day run starting on Tuesday evening.

Set on the fictional Hebridean islands of Great Toddy and Little Toddy, Whisky Galore! The Musical is based on the true story of when a boat carrying 50,000 cases of whisky ran aground on the thirsty islands in 1943.

With comical capers between the catholics and the protestants, the delightfully Dad’s Army-esque home guard and love stories abound, what’s not to love about it.

Throw in some beautiful Scottish music and dancing and you’ll be saying Och aye the noo to a ticket.

Darren Tasker will be taking to the stage as mummy’s boy George Campbell in the show. The long-suffering school teacher is under the thumb of his mother as well as his girlfriend Catriona, but will he build up the guts to stand up to his mother for the sake of his relationship?

His mother, Mrs Campbell, is played by the fabulous Sheila Rodgers. Mrs C (known by the islanders as The Dragon) is a formidable character who refuses to let her son George be corrupted by that ‘painted hussy’ Catriona!
