Work begins on new £30,000 Avonbridge BMX track

Work on the Queen Elizabeth Field facility began yesterday and will continue for six weeks.

The pump track has been designed by Velosolutions, who recently created the World Club BMX track in Glasgow, while the project itself is being led by Avonbridge and Standburn Recreational Initiative (ASRI).

The circuit will be purpose-built for BMX bikes, mountain bikes, scooters and skateboards and will include disability access.

ASRI expects to officially open the track on Saturday, October 17.

It is the first phase of a regeneration plan for greenbelt ground at Queen Elizabeth Field next to Avonbridge Primary School.

Financial support is being provided by Foundation Scotland via an EDF Burnhead Moss Community Fund.

Falkirk Council has supported the installation of new drainage in the park and will maintain the area on completion of the project.

Pump tracks provide ideal access to cycling for toddlers through to professional cyclists and this initiative is part of a wider plan to promote active travel across Forth Valley.

The second and third phases of the plan include the installation of new playground equipment, along with benches, picnic areas, walkways and heritage information boards.

The design will reflect the industrial heritage of the area in recognition of the importance the railway made to its development.

Grant funding is being matched by Falkirk Council with the support of Falkirk Community Trust.

ASRI has received significant support and assistance from Falkirk Council’s Estate Development department.
