Trace your Argylls family roots in Falkirk today

A team from the museum of the Argylls is in Falkirk this lunchtime, on a mission to help local people find out more about family members who once served in the regiment.

A brand new £4.7million Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders museum opens in Stirling Castle this year, with the aim of profiling a military story which stretches from Waterloo to the world wars and beyond.

But it will also focus heavily on the lives of the countless individuals who served in theatres from Korea, Aden and Northern Ireland.

At a special session in Falkirk Library today (from 1pm to 3pm) the museum team will be showing off military kit and other items from the Great War, along with a fascinating display of original photographs from their extensive archive.

They’re also inviting Falkirk residents to bring along any items associated with their own families’ military involvement with the regiment for an expert assessment.

The team can help people to research the careers and experience of family members who served in times past.
