Breaking Bad at Funny in Falkirk 2014 as line-up revealed

The 2014 Funny in Falkirk comedy festival will cook up another batch of laughs thanks to a show based on the hit US series ‘Breaking Bad’.

The full line-up for the fifth annual event, which runs from July 18-29, was unveiled today and includes more than 30 shows at venues in Falkirk, Grangemouth, Larbert, Dunipace and Bo’ness.

Among the big names playing the festival are Phil Jupitus, Mark Nelson, Tom Stade, Fred MacAulay, Des Clarke and Jason Byrne.

But it’s the UK premiere of ‘One Man Breaking Bad’ that is likely to raise most eyebrows among comedy fans from across the country. The creation of Los Angeles-based actor Miles Allen, the show condenses 60 episodes of the multi-award-winning drama series into an hour-long show.

It was a sell-out sensation when it was debuted at the prestigious Melbourne Comedy Festival last month.

Funny in Falkirk will also provide a platform for homegrown talent like Janey Godley, David Kay and Gary Little - who helped publicise the return of the festival in Falkirk High Street.

Gary, who plays Behind the Wall on July 25, said: “I’ve played at the festival in each of the last three years, and it’s been a great event for me. The audiences always laugh - which helps!”

Tommy Sheppard, director of event promoters the Scottish Comedy Agency, said: “We are delighted to present the fabulous fifth Funny in Falkirk. This festival is now well and truly on the map and just keeps getting stronger.”

Although the aim of Funny in Falkirk is attract top comic talent to the district for people to enjoy, it also provides a welcome boost to local businesses and the wider night-time economy.

Alastair Mitchell, manager of Falkirk Delivers, said: “Our comedy festival has now become part of the Falkirk scene, and I’m sure that this year’s fantastic programme will be another resounding success with local residents and visitors alike.”

Councillor Adrian Mahoney, spokesman for leisure and tourism said: “Falkirk Council and its partners are pleased to support this great initiative, bringing loads of laughs - and visitors - to the area.”

Tickets for all shows are on sale tomorrow via and The Steeple Box Office in Falkirk High Street.
