A young dancer from Reddingmuirhead has won her big break after beating off competition in a talent contest to play the part of Annie.
Matilda Jackson (11), a student at McKechnie School of Dance and Performing Arts in Grangemouth, is set to appear as the iconic red-headed orphan, Annie, in Tonight... A West End Christmas alongside Ruthie Henshall, Louise Dearman and Jon Lee.
Producers of the show launched an appeal to find the perfect girl to play the part and were inundated with dozens of entries.
Matilda said: “I’m really excited to get started.
“I’ve watched the movie Annie and really liked it, and the new version as well.”
Producer, Peter Ferguson, was pleased for Matilda when she was chosen. He said: “We literally had dozens of brilliant entries and the decision was a tough one.
“We whittled the entries down to about ten stand outs, bearing in mind we had to consider both singing and dancing abilities. In the end Matilda’s stood out as she has real charisma and stage presence.”
Dance teacher, Nadine Judge was delighted one of her hard working students impressed the judges to take the top spot.
She said: “We can’t wait to see her on stage at The Usher Hall.”
Tickets for the show on Sunday, November 22 are on sale now at the Usher Hall or online at www.tonight productions.co.uk.
