The combination of an Australian cello/vocalist and Scots singer songwriter created the potent musical mix that is Wright and McKay.
Before they began performing contemporary Australian and traditional Scottish songs together, Rebecca Wright and Donald McKay enjoyed a real Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan movie-style romance, their eyes meeting across a crowded tent at the Brampton Live festival near Carlisle in 2008 when Rebecca was touring the UK with the band Cloudstreet.
A few months later, Rebecca turned up on Donald’s doorstep in Elderslie and didn’t leave until early 2012, when they married in Helensburgh and moved to Australia.
Now the couple are back on Scottish shores for a “wee winter tour”, playing Falkirk Folk Club at the Tolbooth Tavern, Tolbooth Street, on Thursday, December 4.
The couple said: “We’re looking forward to once again playing our music in Scotland again.”
Wright and McKay power their songs of love, joy and home with cello, guitar and bodhran and their performance is sure to bring some warmth to this decidedly cold upper half of the globe.
Music starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are available at the door.
