Falkirk’s fast rising pop sensation Dionne Hickey met up with Texas front woman Sharleen Spiteri at Manchester Pride last week.
The two great Scottish singers, both small of stature but big of voice, bumped into each other at the annual lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) festival and took time out between sets for a wee natter and some snaps.
The former Larbert High School pupil, who starred in last year’s Viva Variety documentary on BBC1, was performing to hund- reds on the Friday night and also managed to catch headline act Texas strutting their stuff on stage.
While Sharleen and co were belting out their hits, the band’s manager had a long chat with Dionne about her career, saying he would give her self-penned tracks a listen.
He then made a point of introducing the young vocalist to Sharleen, who first enjoyed chart success with I Don’t Want a Lover back in 1988 – six years before Dionne was born.
“They couldn’t have been nicer,” said Dionne.
You can catch Dionne singing live at La Banca, Vicar Street, Falkirk at 9.30pm tomorrow (Friday).
