Local musician David Johnston landed a dream gig providing some guitar backing for X Factor star Nicholas McDonald.
The 22-year-old former Grangemouth High School pupil impressed Nicholas and his management team so much they also hired David’s fellow bandmates, Gregor Coleman (guitar), Harris Hiscoe (bass) and Graham Brown (drums), to play behind the talent show highflyer when he goes on his UK Tour next month.
David said: “I was brought in as a session guitarist doing some acoustic stuff and Nicholas said he wanted to work with a full live band, so I suggested the band I play with.
“We’re going to be playing gigs in Manchester, Dublin, Southampton, Brighton, London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Belfast, Newcastle, Aberdeen and Glasgow. Nicholas has been great to work with.
“He’s one of the most professional and committed people I’ve worked with.”
David, who works for an oil firm in Larbert, has used most of his annual leave to go on the tour.
“I won’t be off much in the winter,” he laughed. “But opportunities like this don’t come along every day.”
